TERN is a contemporary art gallery and art consultancy business with a focus on emerging and mid-career artists from The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.
TERN celebrates and supports regional contributions to the visual arts while contributing to the international contemporary art market. The core mandates are to operate and maintain a public gallery to exhibit artworks from a global network of artists, to collaborate with the best minds and tastemakers in the industry, and to encourage the development of the local art market. As our name suggests, TERN encompasses a sense of local belonging with global access.

Founding Director
Lauren Perez
For the past decade, Lauren Holowesko Perez has worked to expand how audiences encounter and connect with Caribbean art. She developed The Island House, a boutique hotel and cultural hub in Nassau, commissioning Bahamian art and design to brand the destination. At the site, she curated exhibitions, supported residencies and started a Caribbean film festival before co-founding TERN in 2020. She holds an MA in art business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art and worked in the UK for the auction house Phillips and the design gallery Carpenters Workshop.
Founding Director
Amanda Coulson
Amanda Coulson has worked for three and a half decades as a scholar, critic, curator and cultural producer on both sides of the Atlantic. She has collaborated with artists and institutions and worked alongside both private and corporate colleagues in the US, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, the UK and various sites in the Caribbean. In 2005, she co-founded VOLTA art fair in Basel and later served for ten years as the Executive Director of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas before co-founding TERN. Most recently, she served as Deputy Commissioner and Producer of The Bahamas Pavilion in Venice.
Assistant Director
Romel Shearer
Romel Shearer is a Bahamian arts administrator, cultural practitioner, and cellist working across contemporary art, music, and public engagement. Romel studied cello performance and Modern Language Studies (French) at Texas Christian University. At TERN, he supports exhibitions, programming, design, and gallery operations, with an interest in cultural infrastructure and audience experience.

Arianna Cochinamogulos
Arianna Cochinamogulos received a BFA in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design. Arianna is a contemporary painter who's exhibited in the United States and The Bahamas. Her work captures the rich cultural tapestry of her home, The Bahamas, weaving personal and cultural narratives that celebrate both the ordinary and the extraordinary.
