Augmented Archives

Rodell Warner

TERN Gallery is pleased to present Augmented Archives, a collection of video prints by Trinidadian artist, Rodell Warner, curated by Lauren Perez. This exhibition is composed of a series of framed video prints of augmented found photographs from the Caribbean during the mid 20th Century.

In Augmented Archives, Warner has examined the intersection of art, photography, and technology, exploring the ways in which imagery and information are experienced and disseminated. Using digital animation and sounds, Warner seeks to augment the apparent idyllic narrative presented to the viewer, challenging the viewers relationship to visual representation of cultures, while also unveiling the inherent underlying complications and bias within the documentation and representation of history.

Augmented Archives is a compilation of four different bodies of work spanning the past five years of Warner’s practice. However, this work is an ongoing investigation for Warner, who continues to explore archives throughout the Caribbean; intrigued by representations of different topographies, periods, and societies.
