In celebration of our fifth anniversary, TERN is elated to present “Points of Origin”, an exhibition that brings the gallery’s fourteen represented artists into dialogue for the first time.

Across mediums, geographies, and generations, these artists have each developed a style that renders their work unmistakably their own, yet together their practices trace a shared geography of thought shaped by the Caribbean and its diasporas. “Points of Origin” highlights the deeper conceptual correspondences that unite them: a commitment to place; an interrogation of multi-hyphenate selfhoods—from queerness to motherhood to migrancy; and an exploration of form as a repository for memory and meaning. Like the migratory bird from which the gallery takes its name, their expressions emerge from many places but remain tethered by a common devotion to the region as both compass and catalyst.

This spirit also guides TERN’s mission of championing Caribbean contributions to the visual arts while creating pathways of access within the international contemporary art world. “Points of Origin”, then, not only unites the gallery’s artists but affirms the ethos that has shaped TERN since its founding—a belief in local belonging and global reach as interdependent forces, forming both a meeting point and launchpad for Caribbean thought and aesthetics.

As the gallery enters a new chapter with this milestone, “Points of Origin” marks a moment of joy and reflection. It celebrates the community that has grown around TERN: our artists—whether with us from the beginning, or newly arrived—whose practices continue to expand the scope of Caribbean criticality; and our audiences at home and abroad whose support has fueled our ongoing creation of new ways forward.

“Points of Origin” reminds us of what has always been true: the Caribbean has concepts too—and it thinks, imagines, and creates on its own multitudinous terms.

“Points of Origin” is on view from November 14th, 2025 – January 9th, 2026.
